Meet Emily Davis, a familiar face in the National Young Stars competition, having won the dairy section twice in 2016 and 2017 as part of the Jersey Dream Team and the Jersey Girls.
Here’s what Emily had to say about the National Young Stars Event:
“National Young Stars is by far the best competition I have ever competed in, giving me many opportunities for the future. It gave me confidence and knowledge that will set me up for life and best of all I got the chance to meet like-minded people.”
Emily has just completed her GCSEs and hopes to study towards a level 3 diploma in agriculture at Cannington College. Emily was fortunate enough to go to Canada during one of the National Young Stars exchanges and wishes to return to gain further knowledge about dairy genetics in the future!
Elin Havard won the sheep section in 2015 as part of the Heads Up Team. Since competing, Elin has completed an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at Oxford University and will be graduating the week before the Royal Welsh Show (we hope you get the result you are looking for and can enjoy the show)! She go on to begin a two year graduate scheme at Tesco Food in September.
Here is what Elin had to say about the National Young Stars event:
“The three of us had a great time representing the Badger Face Welsh Mountain Sheep Society at NYS 2015. The fun we had whilst preparing for the event, the looks we received from passers-by as we moved two ewes from our broken-down lorry into a trailer on the M50, and the wonderful people we met made it an unforgettable experience; and leaving with the red rosette was just a bonus!”
Abi Marshall won the competition in 2016 as part of the Jersey Dreams Team. Abi has just finished doing her GCSEs and is planning to study for a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Agriculture at college. We wish her all the best with the upcoming results and hope to see her at the event again this year! The dairy section grows in both numbers and strength each year so watch this space for the action and results!
